Plans are in place to open a third McDonald’s Fiji Ltd restaurant in Suva.

Company managing director, Marc McElrath, said they spent this year consolidating their business.

During an interview yesterday, at McDonald’s Laucala Bay Restaurant, Mr McElrath says they are also planning to open their new headquarters in Nadi next week. “We’ve also spent the year looking at where we want to grow in the future.”

“So there are plans in progress to put another restaurant in Suva, hopefully in the New Year. On top of that as well, we have a new bakery project that will commence next year to supply, to Fiji and hopefully to some of the other Pacific Islands.”

He noted, at the moment, McDonald’s was doing very well. “We’ve moved the head office back to Nadi, that should open next week. But what it has meant is, we can centralise our distribution centre warehousing and our head office together in one area.”

“And the idea for that is so that longer term, we can grow from there and expand out into, hopefully, other regions in Fiji and possibly the Pacific one day.”

Charities
Meanwhile, yesterday, Ronald McDonald House Charities Fiji & Fortech Construction Pte Ltd, yesterday also signed a construction contract valued at $500,000 for the construction of the first Ronald McDonald House at Labasa Hospital.

The works which is expected to commence in January 2021.

It will see the construction of 11 bedrooms, fully furnished house for families who have a seriously ill or injured child admitted at the Labasa hospital and who have travelled from outside of Labasa.

The Ronald McDonald House will come equipped with a kitchen, dining area, lounge area, play area, toilet & bathroom facilities, laundry area and reception area.

Families will enjoy privacy and a comfortable place to stay in while taking care of a sick child.

There will be no cost for staying or utilising the Ronald McDonald House and parents will be close by their children.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Fiji, currently operates the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Colonial War Memorial hospital in Suva which has been in operation since September 2018.

The Ronald McDonald House will be a bigger programme that will be run by the charity 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The construction of the Ronald McDonald House is expected to be completed by June 2021. “Ronald McDonald House is an opportunity for us to give back to the community. “But we’re also worried that we need to create more employment, and basically provide more jobs for some of the school leavers coming out of schools in Fiji.”
