Three men, who allegedly assaulted a bus driver resulting in his death last month, have been remanded in custody by the High Court in Suva.

Mikaele Lawaniyavi, 44, a Tailevu school teacher, Josateki Rokodakunivosa Rabula, 22, a labourer, and Isikeli Tawake Lagibalavu, 20, who is unemployed, appeared before Justice Aruna Aluthge yesterday for the first call of their case.

The trio were jointly charged with one count of murder.

The three were alleged to have assaulted the 56-year-old bus driver, Subhas Chand, inside his bus parked at the Nausori Bus Stand on October 3 at about 12.45pm

The victim succumbed to his injuries and died on October 9.

Lawaniyavi was represented by counsels Josaia Niudamu and Nitil Chand from Niudamu Lawyers, while Lagibalavu was represented by lawyer Kunal Singh from KS Law. Rabula was not represented by a lawyer yesterday.

Prosecutor from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Setefano Komaibaba, sought time to file information and disclosures in the matter.

Justice Aluthge has ordered the state to file information and disclosures within 14 days.

The matter will be called for mention on November 13.
