Suva won the Cricket Fiji Association Cup in convincing style yesterday.

Despite losing to Ono-i-Lau in the pool game, the Jone Wesele-captained side turned the screws in total domination at Albert Park in front of a packed pavilion mostly comprised fans of the island team.

In the 50-over final, Suva batted first and amassed 305 runs while Ono-i-Lau were all out for 48.

Suva bowlers Wesele and Cama Buadromo were lethal in their deliveries giving no time for the Ono-i-Lau batsmen to settle down at the crease.

“It was 20 overs in the pool game but the 50-over format was too much for Ono-i-Lau to handle,”Cricket Fiji president Alex Konrote said.

He confirmed Moce would be the first challenger in January and the second one will be Ono-i-Lau.

Konrote was happy with the development clinics conducted early this year.

“Overall the performance was good and the island teams really stepped up,” he said.

“Our team went out to the islands and did their job, their hard work have paid off with the results that we are witnessing.”
