Leading local professional golfer Sam Lee is top favourite to retain the Digicel Fiji Open title at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa, Suva, this afternoon.

Fiji Golf Club president Vidhya Lakhan told SUNsports yesterday that Lee had won the title for the last two years.

Lee shot 5 under par to take a 4-stroke lead in the 50th Anniversary Fiji Open Golf Championship. His overall score after two days of play is 136, 8 under par.

Tomasi Tuivuna and Anasa Seruvatu both played 4 under par and are lying in second place on a score of 140 each.

In the Junior Division, Shakeel Pillai is leading on a gross score of 153 over two days.

In the Junior Nett Division young Zac Li is leading the field on a score of 114.

In the overall Gross Division, Abid Hussain of Nadi Airport Golf Club is leading the pack with a score of 148 closely followed by Nagel Goundar on 153.

In the Nett Division, Sarvesh Devan has taken the lead on a score of 133, followed by Lakhan on 136.

In the Ladies Division, Gross leader is Dawi Jee continues to lead the field with a score 161 followed by Merelita McCarthy on a score of 172.

Ladies Nett division leader is Deborah Gibson on a score of 116.  Runner up is Mua Rawlinson on a score of 122.

However, Lakhan said the overall amateur both Gross and Nett competitons were wide open.

“Stiff competition and some excellent golf will be played tomorrow on the Vatuwaqa course,” he added.

“Golfers again enjoyed beautiful weather conditions with the greens and the fairways playing true.”

 

WHAT’S ON TODAY

The prize presentation will take place after the competition at 6pm with the President Major General (Retired) Joiji Konrote as the chief guest.
