Packleader Pacific Fiji is grateful to Government for initiating the Stronger Together Job Support Scheme.

Part of the Australian based Packleader Group, the company is among more than 30 companies that have signed to employ Fijians who are currently employed.

The scheme was launched and signed yesterday between the Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service board chair Fay Yee.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Ministry of Employment, Ministry of Economy and all the other respective ministries including Commerce and Trade have worked very diligently to actually firstly mitigate the adverse effects of the job losses.

“This is the first phase in which in excess 500 people are being recruited in this scheme. We have put in place this job support scheme that is the Stronger Together Job Support Scheme, in which essentially government has undertaken to pay $2.68 cents an hour which is a minimum wage for any new position that’s created by any of the employers that have actually been approved by the Ministry of Economy and FRCS.”

“The process is actually rather simple. You have to apply then the Ministry of Economy vets the application and we work together with FRCS as you’ve seen the agreement that was signed together with the chair of FRCS.”

“The service is pleased to have a key role in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, Fiji National Provident Fund, and other relevant agencies in the ministry, the Stronger Together Job Support scheme.”

FRCS Benefits
Ms Yee highlighted the Fijian Government has rolled out several great and successful initiatives like the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) loan scheme providing huge benefits to its
people facilitated by FRCS, and this is another initiative, which FRCS is delighted to be part of.

“FRCS will work closely and quickly with related parties to ensure and enable the benefits this initiative of incentivising employers to create employment for Fijians is successfully met.”

“FRCS has developed a comprehensive implementation plan to ensure that this policy is administered well and objective of incentivising employers to create employment for out of –work Fijians is successfully met.”

“Our PR team will be disseminating the comprehensive guidelines of the Stronger Together Job Support Scheme through various platforms.”

Packleader Pacific Fiji local director Unaisi Tevita said: “This is a great initiative that the Government’s put forward. It’s to help employers who are obviously facing a lot of challenges and financial crisis at this time which is affecting the whole world.”

“Due to this financial crisis we may not have been able to fully employ people that we would have wanted to, but with this initiative it has given us, the great opportunity to be able to go ahead and do that.”
