Parmesh Prasad was toast for Tuva side in the 7-6 victory over Wairabetia.

The former Lautoka and Nadroga goalkeeper made crucial saves in the final of the Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji 2020 Battle of the Giants tournament at Tuva Primary School on Monday.

The side laced with Nadroga reps Sunny Deol, Krishneel Dutt and Ranjeeet Singh.

Both teams drew 1-1 at fulltime before they exchanged penalties.

Team director Avinesh Gosai said the boys had only one objective and that was to lift the trophy on their home ground.

“This is our first time to win this B.O.G title since its inception six years ago. The support was great as the competition was tough right from the first game.”

In the first semifinal, 2019 runner-up Cuvu comprising Nadroga Futsal captain Pravil Singh, Nitulesh Mali and Romit Narayan bowed out in the semifinal to Tuva 4-3 in penalty shootout after 1-1 draw at fulltime.

In the second semi-final clash, Wairabetia (Lautoka) beat Navua 2-1.

Rewa was crowned the Masters winner after the 1-0 victory over Nitulesh Mali’s Cuvu side in the final. A total of seven teams competed in the category.

In the Masters semifinal, Rewa beat Tuva 1-0 and Cuvu beat Korovuto 5-4 (penalty kicks).

In the Open netball category, Tuva women claimed victory over Makoi 20-19 in extra time.  Tuva’s (GD) Karishma Dass walked away with the best player award.

Nasinu beat host Tuva to claim the veterans’ category.

Netball umpires co-ordinator Judy Kumar said: “The competition level this year has gone to another notch.”
