Court Rules In Favour Of Tenant

A Suva tenant is thankful for the quick action taken by the Legal Aid Commission in helping him in fight an illegal eviction.

Pramil Prasad, a taxi driver from Waisasa Settlement from Tamavua said in September he was told to vacate his rented flat.

Mr Prasad said the landlord had cut off water supply to the home.

There was no High Court eviction notice issued to Mr Prasad.

After running around for help, he finally went to the Legal Aid Commission, who took the matter to court where an order was issued.

The court ruled that the landlord should reconnect the water supply as soon as possible and to have Mr Prasad remain at the flat until the matter was decided by the court.

The court has also ordered that the landlord and his agents not to interfere in any way with the tenant until the matter was resolved by the court.
