PM To Officiate At Narikoso Village Relocation

The first phase of relocation for Narikoso Village in Kadavu will take place this month with Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama set to officiate.
Village project coordinator, Kelepi Saukitoga said, they held a meeting yesterday in Suva with people who hailed from the village on the project.
“Studies done on the village showed that a third of the houses were in what we call the red zone,” he said.
“With aid from the European Union and the Fijian Government, we are now about to complete the first phase of the relocation.
“The meeting yesterday was to have synergy with stakeholders in Suva so we can be on the same page with the project.”
Mr Saukitoga said Mr Bainimarama had agreed to be the chief guest at the handing over of the houses.
The houses will be moved some 200 metres uphill to stop the constant tidal flooding experienced by Narikoso Village.
According to Mr Saukitoga, the impact on the village is a classic example of how climate change affects livelihoods.
There are 30 houses in the village, seven houses are part of the first phase.
