The number of confirmed global cases of Covid-19 has passed 50 million, as the pandemic continues to gather pace and a second wave of the disease sweeps across Europe.
Johns Hopkins University’s coronavirus tracker reported more than 50.2 million COVID-19 cases globally as of Sunday.
The U.S., with about 4 percent of the world’s population, represents almost a fifth of all reported cases, AP said.
Europe, with about 12 million cases, is the world’s worst-affected region, overtaking Latin America.
The region is logging about one million new infections every three days or so, according to a Reuters analysis.
