Strive for excellence or even perfection in any task, but never settle for second best, said owner and managing director of Dayals Steel, Jay Dayal.

The company was awarded the Best Steel Company at the fifth Construction and Engineering Awards in the United Kingdom, hosted by BUILD.

Mr Dayal said the recognition made Diwali all the more meaningful to celebrate.

BUILD’s senior awards executive, Steve Simpson, said the programme was to acknowledge efforts of companies that have excelled in their sector.

“Dayals Steels Pte Ltd, like all our victors, have demonstrated excellence and commitment, and we shall be proud to help you promote that to your best advantage.”

Mr Simpson added that to move successfully from nominee to winner, there must be evidence of expertise within a given field.

These would be dedication to customer service and client satisfaction with an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.

“Our programme seeks to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the companies that have gone above and beyond in their sector.”

Dayals Steel
Dayals Steels was founded in 2015.

It continues to serve the sector as Fiji’s largest and fully locally owned steel rolling mill, specialising in round reinforcement bars, structural purlins and roofing iron and accessories and mesh wire in various specifications.

So far, the venture has received $35 million in investment backing which enables the company to produce 100,000 tonnes of steel product a year.

“We are the only steel mill in Fiji with ISO9001, ISO14001 and ISO45001 certifications,” Mr Dayalsaid.

Our Hallmark
Mr Dayal praised the professionalism of his 130 employees at the steel business, a factor which he believes set the company apart from the competition.

“With Dayals Steels producing a top-quality product, timely and exceptional customer service has been the hallmark of our success,” he said. “We hire motivated people and we inspire them.”

Despite the pandemic, he believes his employees should always be acknowledged for their efforts.

“Our very dedicated asset Ratu Villiame Naliva is the best employee for October – Rebar mill division,” Mr Dayal said.

“Villiame is physically challenged, but that has not deterred him from being the best.

“We also awarded Amresh Chandra the best employee from our Mesh factory for October.

“I stand confident that having not only created a $35 million steel venture for Ba but for the whole of Fiji, this business will become a leader in the Pacific very soon.

“We have many ambitious plans – some have been temporarily shelved due to COVID-19, but we will soon be back on track once businesses normalise in 2021.”
