Man Who Allegedly Caused Death Of Child, 2, Bailed

A 26-year-old businessman and lorry driver, who allegedly caused the death of a two-year-old child at Drasa, Lautoka on Monday, has been granted bail.
Kushal Kumar, of Masimasi, Tavua, who is charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death appeared before Magistrate Nayani Kasturiratne at the Magistrates Court in Lautoka yesterday.
Kumar was the driver of a vehicle with three passengers including the victim when it was allegedly involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle along Drasa Flat in Lautoka.
It is alleged that all four passengers were rushed to the Lautoka Hospital where the child was pronounced dead on arrival.
Defence lawyer, Salvin Nand requested bail for Kumar.
Representing the State was Inspector Arvind Kumar, who did not object to bail.
Magistrate Kasturiratne granted bail for the accused on the condition that he surrender travel documents; a stop departure order made and he was ordered not to re-offend. Kumar was also ordered to bring one surety.
The matter has been deferred to December 7 when a plea would be taken.
