EFL Underground Cable Fault Causes Partial Road Closure
Please take an alternative route and avoid this junction. EFL expects the repair works to be completed by tomorrow, Monday 16, November 2020.

There were two unplanned power outages on Friday 13 th November, 2020, one at 11:58 am and another at 3:05 pm, due to two underground cable faults along Ratu Mara Road and Kaua Road. This caused power disruptions to our valued customers who are provided electricity via the Vatuwaqa and Samabula River Feeders along the Suva-Kinoya Corridor.

The outages had temporarily affected the supply of electricity to our customers in the following areas: Tamavua (including all roads off Princess Road from the U.S Embassy to Mead Road Junction), Mead Road (including Namadi Heights and all roads off Mead Road and Vunakece Road), Ratu Mara Road (including all roads off Ratu Mara Road from Nabua Round-a-bout to the RB Centrepoint Traffic lights) and Ratu Dovi Road (including all roads off Ratu Dovi Road from RB Centrepoint Traffic Lights to the EFL Kinoya Depot).

EFL Technicians restored power supply to these areas on the Vatuwaqa and Samabula River Feeders at 1:15 pm and 3:35 pm, respectively, on the same day, Friday 13 th November, 2020 with an alternate back feed option from Niranjan Auto Port Feeder.

The EFL technicians had then proceeded to pinpoint the underground cable fault location, which was found to be at the Cunningham Road & Ratu Mara Road Traffic Lights (across the 2 lanes for traffic bound towards Valelevu). EFL then arranged logistics for trenching works to expose the underground cable fault, by obtaining the necessary approvals from the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to carry out the necessary repairs. In order for EFL to carry out trenching works across the carriageway, the two lanes bound towards Valelevu will need to be closed near the Rewa Dairy Traffic Lights.

EFL teams will be carrying out repair works between 9:00 pm last night, Saturday 14 th November, 2020 to 1:00 am on Monday 16 th November, 2020. The two lanes for traffic bound towards Valelevu from Nabua will be blocked and traffic going towards Nabua from Valelevu will be reduced to one lane to allow oncoming traffic heading towards Valelevu from Nabua to utilize the second lane.

EFL kindly requests drivers and machine operators to exercise caution while driving and maneuvering vehicles.

EFL also requests that motorist utilize alternate routes such as Golf Link Road, Jerusalem Road, Princess Road, Cunningham Road and Khalsa Road to avoid buildup of traffic.

EFL sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all our valued customers and motorists due to this fault, which was beyond our control.
