The Namaka Market was filled with enthusiasm on Friday as the Diwali fever brightened the faces of vendors and their stalls.

The theme was lights bring unity.

Market Crime Prevention Committee and community policing Police constable, Kamueli Salu, said that it was good to note that the market vendors worked together in unity during the Diwali celebration.

“A competition of getting the best stall and best dress etc was organised by the Namaka Market Crime Prevention Committee in-conjunction with Fiji Women Crisis Centre,” he said.

He thanked the prize sponsors such as Consumer Supermarket, Rajendra Supermarket, Matasawa Resort, Tanoa International Hotel and Rups.

Farmboy’s director, Angie Prasad, scooped awards for best stall and best dressed couple and best Stall while the best section prize went to Grog Stall.

“This is an auspicious festival and we look forward to it. We had decorated our stall just like our home, since year in and year out we remain in the market,” said Ms Prasad.

Seema Sanjini Ram, 40, who is also a vendor, did wear attire depicting the lady goddess Laxmi.

“I have been a vendor for the past 15 years. Every year I would do a Diwali tour at Rosie Tours where my husband works. There’s none this year due to COVID-19, so this is one way to celebrate Diwali,” Ms Ram said.
