Ashna Kumar covered several court proceedings today, here are 3 of the public interest cases:

1. Five suspended Police Officers who allegedly threw a 32-year-old man off a bridge in Naqia, Wainibuka, have been ordered to comply with their bail conditions by the High Court in Suva. Sevanaia Narogi, Kameli Tukana, Mafoa Korosaya, Inoke Nagata and Jokaveti Rabuku appeared before Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza today.

2. The Civil High Court in Suva has ordered Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission to pay the director of a local car parts dealer of Japanese Auto Trading, $500. The matter was called before Judge Justice Lyone Seneviratne today. Director of the company, Melvin Pratap through his counsel Bhupendra Solanki of Solanki Laws took the Fijian Competition Consumer Commission to court alleging defamation.

3. The Fiji Court of Appeal has refused leave to appeal application of a 49-year-old woman convicted and sentence for rape of her biological daughter. The convicted rapist and single mother of four was jailed for 13 years in prison with a non-parole period of 12 years for rape and sexual assault offences.
