The Minister for Agriculture, Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahendra Reddy will assist the people of Lauwaki Village in Lautoka to overcome the drainage issue.

Speaking during a talanoa session, Dr Reddy received requests to look into the drainage issue in the village which has caused flooding when there was heavy downpour.

Dr Reddy said his team would engage with a contractor to ensure the issue of flooding doesn’t continue to affect the villagers.

“Give us four or five weeks to engage a contractor to do the village drainage,” Mr Reddy said.

“We will only do the emergency work that needs to be done so that there is no flooding in the village.”

He said the budget set aside for his ministry also needed to be used to protect the other villages as well.
