Fiji Sun Court News profiles the following public interest cases from proceedings today in Suva and Labasa:

1. The development works carried out by Freesoul Real Estate Development (Fiji) PTE Limited was illegal. These were state witness, Environment officer for the Ministry of Environment, Kelera Tokalau’s evidence while she took stand yesterday in the trial of the Director of Public Prosecutions against Freesoul Real Estate Development (Fiji) PTE Limited. The trial commenced today before Magistrate Seini Puamau.

2. An ex-soldier of the Republic of the Fiji Military Forces who is jailed for rape of a female soldier has filed a bail pending appeal. Then Private, Josefa Tikoidavau Tuinidau, was dishonourably discharged from the service with the RFMF and jailed to 10 years for the offence of rape and three years for sexual assault on April 15, 2019 by the RFMF General Court Martial Judges. He was given a non-parole period of nine years. The sentences were to be served concurrently by Tuinidau.

3. A former District School Committee member was produced in the Labasa Magistrates Court today for the alleged abuse of the Free Education Grant. Filipe Tuisabeto was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with one (1) count each of Obtaining a Financial Advantage and Causing a Loss.
