French Top 14 club Lyon has signed up Flying Fijians lock Temo Mayanavanua.

The 23-year-old Northland forward in New Zealand will be Etienne Oosthuizen’s medical joker until the end of season.

Mayanavanua played for the Flying Fijians when they beat the Barbarians 33-31 in Twickenham, last November.

Standing at 1.97 metres and weighing 120 kilogrammes, he was named by Flying Fijian head coach Vern Cotter to start against France in the Autumn Nations Cup but the match was cancelled due to COVID-19.

“It is in the Lyon jersey that he (Mayanavanua) will have the opportunity to express his potential and to confirm all the hopes placed in him,” stated the club.

Mayanavanua along with bustling winger Josua Tuiusova will join Lyon at the end of the Autumn Nations Cup.

On the same note, former Fijian 7s prop Setareki Bituniyata has signed another three-year deal with Brive.

Bituniyata has been in top form and was chased by Top 14 clubs like Lyon, Pau and Toulon.

Olympian Masivesi Dakuwaqa is yet to decide on whether to leave Toulon and join Montpellier. Dakuwaqa has been impressive for Toulou playing either on the wing or at openside flanker.

Utility back Metuisela Talebula returns to French Rugby by playing for ProD2 club Soyaux.

Talebula last represented the Flying Fijians in 2018 when they beat France 21-14 in Paris.
