The 13th Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s rugby, netball and volleyball tournament is set for December 3-5 at the Wairiki Sports Ground in Taveuni.

Tournament director, Iowane Gade said this was the first major tournament of the year, which would unify people on the island.

Gade said this was a good opportunity for rugby players in the country to showcase their talents.

It is understood that Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber will be present to watch potential players.

“Since the people here are not affected by the coronavirus, we thought of making this year’s tournament bigger and better,” he said.

“That is why we are including netball and volleyball as well.

“Spectators can expect a rugby festival atmosphere, live music, island like hospitality at its best and many more.”

Gade confirmed that top rugby teams like CK Ezybuy Tabadamu, Police Blue, Raiwasa Resort Taveuni, FDS Barbarian Brothers, First Light Taveuni and Army have confirmed their participation.

Fijian 7s players who are likely to play in the tournament include Jerry Tuwai, Kalione Nasoko, Napolioni Ratu, Waisea Nacuqu, Livai Ikanikoda, Alasio Naduva, Suliano Volivoli, Meli Derenalagi and the list goes on.

The winning 7s teams pocket $8000 while $1500 for netball and $2000 for volleyball

“The pool draws will be done on Friday. It is important for these teams to pay so that it can make our work easier,” he added.

Tabadamu led by veteran hooker Leo Naikasau have already won the Fiji Bitter Marist and Savusavu tournaments.
