Vishala Raman is the newest board member for Women in Business (WIB) after nomination was done during the Annual General Meeting at the South Pacific Stock of Exchange board room last night.

Ms Raman brings 13 years of experience as the Head of Customer Care at Vodafone Fiji Limited.

She is in charge of the side of business, which runs the call contact centre and also provides training and development for all customer touch points.

Ms Raman has been an active member of WIB for the past six years, coming to events and networking before being approached to be nominated.

“I am very happy to be on the board, as women , we have to look after each other,”Ms Raman said.

“From the technology point of view, I am pretty sure we can assist women in business, market our services to reach out to a bigger segment of the market

“There are women who can’t come on board and join us in this kind of forum but we can share with them information ,SMS, or viber messages so that they know that we are here to assist them and provide the service they want.

“There’s a lot of things you can do with technology by doing long distance meetings with people through Zoom meetings and exchanging information with them without them being physically present in the room such as some issues of domestic violence, mental illness.

Advice

Her advice to young women comin up the business ladder? : “Don’t wait for anyone to come and tell you to take action, it is your right.

“You have to believe in yourself and fight for it because the world is such that the recognition for females is still lacking unless we step up and put our foot into the door and say,” Hey, I need to be recognised and I know I can do it better.

“We have to have the confidence otherwise we will always be surpassed and men will thrive while women take the exit.”

She had ambitions to become a doctor but her path changed when she took up education and then management where she believes where her calling lies in order to assist and support anyone in that direction.

While respecting the norm of the society, individuals need to pave their own direction

WIB President Nur Bano Ali in welcoming the newest board member said that Ms Raman has brought with her alot of strength and skills that we require for female empowerment.
