20 Vendors Lose Produce At Tavua Market

This is about the third time this year vendors based at the Tavua Market have had their produce either stolen or destroyed.
On Saturday evening, it is believed that a group of people attempted to rob the market area affecting about 20 vendors.
Tavua Market Vendors Association president, Abdul Azeem said he was informed of the incident yesterday morning.
“This is the third time this is happening,” said Mr Azeem.
“We have been requesting for a security guard for a long time now and nothing has been done about this.”
Tavua Market vendor, Anish Prasad, said being the sole bread winner of the family the issue was disheartening to see.
Mr Prasad has been a vendor for the last five years and depends on the income earned from selling fruits and vegetables to support his wife and two children.
He claimed that $40 worth of apples, eight trays of eggs and one bag of potato were missing from his stall.
“I think if this wouldn’t have happened, I would have saved about $1000.”
Police Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro confirmed of the incident.
She said nothing was taken since the robbers were disturbed.
Investigations continue.
