Complainant Overseas Sees Fareed’s Trial Dates Moved

Nouzab Fareed’s lawyer said if the complainant was not in the country for the rescheduled trial, he would make submissions to withdraw charges or strike out his client’s case.
This is after the State prosecutor made an application for the trial to be shifted because one of the two complainants was still in South Korea.
Fareed appeared before Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili,
The trial which was supposed to begin yesterday will now be from March 15 to March 19, 2021.
Fareed is charged with three counts of indecent assault.
His lawyer, Hemendra Nagin from Sherani and Co, told the court that if the complainant did not come to Fiji for the trial, he would seek either the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions) to withdraw charges against Fareed or the court to strike out the matter.
Mr Nagin also sought for Fareed’s reporting condition to be removed.
Chief Magistrate Ratuvili has removed the reporting condition while other bail conditions remain in place and adjourned the matter for trial in March next year.
