The Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay was awarded the best Fijian property award during the 2020 HM Awards for Hotel and Management Excellence in Sydney last week.

The event was also broadcasted live.

The 18th HM Awards recognised the biggest and brightest stars in the accommodation industry across Fiji, Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, from individuals to properties, departments, brands and chains.

Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay general manager, Silvano Dressino, in a statement said: “We are extremely proud and grateful to achieve this award, which is a true reflection of the great teamwork and our strong commitment to deliver memorable experiences for our guests.”

The Marriott International Hotels and Resorts, Fiji also secured awards for Service to the Community and Sales and Marketing Associate among others.

The Resort’s market director of sales for Fiji and Samoa, Javed Shameem, also scooped the award for sales and marketing associate award.

Meanwhile, the highly recommended Fijian Property award was awarded to Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa, Club Wyndham Denarau Island and Kokomo Private Island.

General manager for Sofitel Resort, Vincent Macquet, said they were proud of the achievement.

“We are privileged to be recognised for this achievement. With ownership from Fiji Airways and BSP Life we have invested $45m to reposition the hotel and align with today’s travelers luxury expectations,” Mr Macquet said.

“The nomination makes it closure to our goals of becoming a true luxury hotel within a Fijian escape.”

He dedicated the award to the hardworking staff members of the resort.

Kokomo Private Island general manager, Jacques Louw, said: “It feels good to be recognised during this global COVID-19 pandemic.”

Commenting in the HM Magazine, HM Awards Chief Judge and Founder, James Wilkinson, said this year was more important than ever to recognise the hard work and dedication of so many individuals and teams.

They received 1000 entries and winners were announced in 48 categories.
