Former A-G Dies At 71

Former Attorney General and Fiji Labour Party president Anand Singh passed away yesterday in Middlemore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.
Mr Singh,71, had gone to Auckland two months ago for medical treatment.
Mr Singh was Attorney-General in the Labour-led Coalition Government of 1999.
He was among MPs held hostage at gunpoint in Parliament following the coup of May 19, 2000.
He was released after being held captive for 55 days.
Labour Leader Mahendra Chaudhry said Mr Singh was a close friend and adviser.
“He was a true crusader of Labour’s values. A champion of human rights and the rule of law,” he said.
“His wise counsel will be sorely missed at a crucial time in the party’s history as we prepare our build up for the 2022 General Election.”
Mr Singh is survived by three children and a grandchild.
