Samabula will soon feature a new fast-food outlet where crumb-battered fish with fries will be sold at $5 a serve.

Located across the Waimanu Road entrance of Samabula Police Station, the restaurant is an extension of its Flagstaff restaurant.

It opens today and will employ three new staff members.

“There are no frills and spills in our fish and chips shops – just good old fashioned fish and fries,” owner, Nooraz Ali said.

The Samabula restaurant is expected to be a bigger and an instant hit for tertiary students in the area.

“The success of this business is owed to the reasonable prices,” Mr Ali said.

“We don’t sit on our laurels.”

“Our ingredients are healthy, Halal and non-fat based.”

“The secret is in the batter – your first time won’t be your last.”

The restaurants employ a combined workforce of seven workers.

Mr Ali is a hands on operator, jumping in to serve staff during peak hours.

The restaurant opens 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 4pm on Sunday.

The new investment was worth $10,000, Mr Ali said.

Diversification
Smart business means putting your eggs in several baskets, Mr Ali said.

He owns two tinting factories – one at Walu Bay, the other in Nadi.

The Flagstaff fish and chips shop opened last year.

“We’re also selling sliced fish – the same fish that we use in our recipes.”

In the meantime, Mr Ali is waiting for the international borders to open before he can resume his contracted tinting work for the Tuvalu government.

“Every smart businessman will diversify,” he said.

“It also depends on your management skills.

“In the case of the restaurants, I encourage my staff to take ownership of the running of the store.”
