Meeting To Boost Ministry Policy On Bullying In Schools

A two-day symposium aimed at strengthening the Ministry of Education’s policy in addressing bullying in schools and out of school-aged children began at Suva’s Peninsula Hotel yesterday.
The symposium is titled “Bullying in Fijian Primary Schools and Out of School Children”.
Our ministry, in partnership with the Australian and Secretariat of the Pacific Community’s (SPC) education programme, collected information from over 2000 students between Year 5 and Year 8 in 20 schools in the country to provide a report on bullying.
Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts, Anjeela Jokhan said: “While the ministry will review and tighten its policies around this to ensure we eliminate these occurrences, we need you to discuss the findings and implement strategies that will help us control and manage bullying in schools better.”
