The Fiji SUN yesterday contributed $20,000 towards the Subrails Republic of Fiji Military Forces rugby team.

This contribution was to support  the preparation for the team’s defence of FMF Rise Fiji Rise Sukuna Bowl tomorrow.

The Fiji SUN sponsorship started in 2009 and has continued ever since for over a decade.

The cheque was handed to assistant manager, Lieutenant Apakuki Tukana at the Fiji SUN Gorrie Street headquarters in Suva.

Fiji SUN managing editor digital and readership development, Rosi Doviverata made the presentation on behalf of Publisher and Chief Executive Officer.  Peter Lomas.

She said: “Despite the financial constraints that hit us during COVID-19, our support for RFMF remains.

“This dates back to 2009 when no company wanted to be associated with RFMF but Fiji SUN was there. And we are still here today.

“And I wish the team the very best and we look forward to the Sukuna Bowl at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks once again after the final whistle at the ANZ Stadium on Friday.”

Lt. Tukana was grateful for the continuous support by the Fiji SUN. He said: “On behalf of the Commander RFMF and team, we thank you for your kind support.

“You came onboard in 2009, when no one was there. And that means a lot to the team and the military family as a whole,” he said.

“We understand the COVID-19 impacts, not only for your company but Fiji as a whole, but despite that you continued to support us.

“Even in these trying times, this will go a long way in ensuring that the competition runs smoothly this Friday.

“The boys are prepared and ready for Friday.

“We believe that come Friday, the outcome will be a good one, not only for the team but RFMF as a whole,” Lt. Tukana added.
