Hard work and deter­mination paid off for Alfaz Rasheed Mo­hammed of Sigatoka Andhra Sangam College.

He was given the dux and the Student of the Year Awards last Friday.

He also received trophies and medals for being the top Arts Student of the year and high­est scorer in Maths, English, Economic, Computer and Ac­counting.

He was also the top scorer in the Year 13 annual examina­tion with the total of 362 out of 400.

Youngest of four siblings, the 18-year-old said it was through hard work and determination that he excelled academically.

“I have worked hard right from the beginning of school. My sisters have been my big­gest motivation,” he said.

“COVID-19 has been the big­gest challenge as we couldn’t get much time in school, but where there is a will there is a way.”
