“Fellow Citizens, Disasters happen anytime and anywhere. And when a disaster strikes, you may not have much time to respond. Fiji’s families will cope best by preparing for disaster before it strikes.”

“As advised by the Fiji Meteorological Service, Tropical Cyclone (TC) Yasa Category 3 is already in Fiji waters and continues to intensify.”

“As TC YASA shows a projected landfall in Fiji this week, I offer a few words of advice to all Fijians to take heed of warnings from the weather office and the Fiji National Disaster Management Office.”

“I ask that you join me in securing your homes, helping those that need you in their preparations, and run through possible evacuation drills. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, TC YASA is likely to become a Category 5 as it passes close to or over Fiji.”

This is will be a very powerful cyclone.

Risk to life and property is extremely high.

“TC Yasa was located about 640 kilometres West North West of Nadi at midnight. At this stage, the Nadi Weather Office says Cyclone Yasa is expected to be located just to the West of Viti Levu with severe cyclone strength on Friday.”

It is projected to be a Category 5 Cyclone

“A Category 5 Cyclone may cause widespread power failures, blow away roofs and cause considerable damage to structures especially weak-structured houses.”

“A Category 5 Cyclone can uproot big trees and cause total damage to shallow rooted plants and crops.”

“A Category 5 Cyclone can cause high waves about 3 meters that can overturn boats and cause damages to seaside structures”

“A category 5 cyclone is serious. We all remember Winston. Please be prepared.”
