The Ministry of Health and Medical Services has relocated Nausori Health center and the Maternity Unit to Vunimono Secondary School this morning.

The school has a three-storey building and the ground floor will be used for operations.

With Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa fast approaching the country and the safety of the patients and the staff remains paramount.

Nausori Health Center has risk of flooding and the threat of  structural damage is anticipated.  12 hour shifts will be activated and all patients will be attended to and the return to the Health Centre will be decided once the Cyclone passes Fiji.

Limited maternity services will be available, however, the CWM and Makoi Maternity Units will be on stand by to accept maternity cases, a statement from the Ministry said.

Nausori Health Center will operate 24 hours from today with support of Nausori staff to attend to injuries and as well as holding/observation. It will step down as and when the situation normalises.

 The Ministry has also advised people to take all preparations as all precautions are taken to provide safe health services to all Fijians.

Evacuation centres in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions have been activated and occupied.

As of this morning, a total of 24 evacuation centres have been activated in these Divisions with 531 evacuees.

The evacuation of 44 households located in close locality of the Energy Fiji Limited transmission lines in Cunningham continues.

Their evacuation to Delainamasi Primary School is being coordinated by first responders.

All non-essential civil servants are required to stay home during the height of Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

All public transportation services have ben directed to cease operations from 11pm last night until further notice.

Essential services will remain available for members of the public with minimum disruptions.
