Koro Next After TC Yasa Made Landfall In Bua At 6pm

Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasa centre made land fall over the province of Bua at around 6pm this evening.

The Fiji Meteorological Service said on this track, at 11pm today the cyclone centre is expected to be located about 25 kilometres west-northwest of Koro or about 130 kilometres northeast of Suva.

At 11am tomorrow morning, the centre of TC Yasa is expected to be about 80 kilometres east of Moala or about 230km east of Suva.

Close to its centre the cyclone is expected to have average winds up to 240 km/hr with momentary gusts to 345 km/hr. The cyclone is moving southeast at about 18 km/hr.

Destructive winds are likely to begin a several hours before the cyclone centre passes overhead or nearby.

Widespread heavy rain poses the risk of river flooding and flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas. With the ground already saturated, there is also risk of landslides in landslide prone areas.

Extremely rough seas having a significant wave height of 14m or more and damaging heavy swells. Storm surge with sea flooding of low lying coastal areas expected during high tides, with storm surge heights up to 3 meters expected along the coast when the cyclone centre passes nearby.
