Bua: At Least 49 Houses Destroyed, 224 Damaged

Cyclone Yasa had destroyed at least 49 houses in the Bua Province.

About 224 houses were damaged.

This was confirmed by the Provincial Administrator of Bua, Peni Naqasenivanua while briefing the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama during at Naulumatua House in Bua yesterday.

Mr Bainimarama arrived at Nabouwalu by boat and without wasting any time, he started visiting the affected areas.

He was accompanied by Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development, Inia Seruiratu and his assistant minister Jale Sigarara, Minister for Women,

Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa and Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate.

“So far we know that there are 52 evacuation centres opened,” Mr Naqasenivanua said.

“We expecting the numbers to increase as teams have been deployed to the maritime islands to collect information.”

His team have yet to visit Yadua Island where one casualty case was recorded.

“We haven’t been to this island yet as we do not have enough primix,” he said.

“The man who transported the deceased informed a nurse that eight houses have been completely destroyed on Yadua Island.

“Prime Minister we need more manpower, 300 liters primix, 44 drum diesel to reach out to outer islands and districts like Wainunu and Kubulau.”

Mr Seruiratu confirmed that fuel arrangement has been made and was it’s on the way.
