A family travelling from Suva were impressed with the assurance by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that they would be home for Christmas.

Sunday Law and her three children and two cousins travelled on Sunday from Natovi to Nabouwalu to Batinivuriwai Settlement in Wainunu, Bua.

But the only crossing to the settlement was damaged by Cyclone Yasa.

On his tour of the impacted areas in Bua on Sunday, Mr Bainimarama met Ms Law and assured her that the crossing would be fixed before Christmas.

The Fiji Roads Authority contractor, Fair Deal Limited, was already on site working on repairs.

“We understand your situation, please bear with us,” Mr Bainimarama said.

Minister for Maritime and Rural Development Inia Seruiratu informed Mr Bainimarama that since the crossing was damaged no vehicle could go to Wainunu District.

Mr Bainimarama wanted to travel further towards Kubulau District but he had to halt this part of his tour and return to Nabouwalu.

He encouraged the workers to do their best.

The crossing is understood to have been fixed on Sunday night.
