I don’t want any instances of abuse of power and authority.
That’s the warning from Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu at Naulumatua House on Sunday.
He was addressing 50 Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel and 48 officers from Government agencies who will be distributing rations and carrying out initial damage assessment after Cyclone Yasa in Bua.
The team will distribute 10,000 food rations with one ration sufficient for up to 14 days They are on a five-day mission which began yesterday.
The team has been split into two.
“I am the minister in charge of this operation and you come under me,” Mr Seruiratu said.
“I don’t want any cases of abuse of anything.”
Mr Seruiratu also told the group to show respect and compassion to those impacted by Cyclone Yasa and to be mindful of the law.
“In some places roads and crossings are very bad,” he said.
“Don’t speed. I don’t want any vehicles to be damaged. Maintain the law of Fiji always.
