Teenager Drowns In Tawatawa River On Christmas

A 17-year-old boy from Sukanaivalu Road in Lautoka is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim.
The victim had gone to bath in the Tawatawa River yesterday afternoon when the alleged incident occurred.
When he failed to surface after some time, a search was conducted where his body was found floating in the river.
A post mortem will be conducted as investigations continue.
The drowning death toll currently stands at 37 compared to 41 for the same period last year.
We are urging the public to be vigilant and take necessary safety precautions if you’re intending on going for a picnic or will be involved in any water-related activities today.
We anticipate a lot of families to be taking advantage of this Christmas long weekend at popular picnic spots and while Police will be moving around we can’t be everywhere and are urging everyone to prioritize their safety.
