Three families of former Government employees who passed away during and in the course of employment and sixteen workers, who sustained injuries at the workplace, received their final compensation payments at the Ministry of Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations Office last week.

A total of $366,709.01 was paid out to nineteen (19) Government cases.

Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Parveen Kumar Bala said the families were very grateful for the assistance provided by the Fijian Government as these compensation pay-outs will provide greater relief to dependents of deceased workers including injured workers as they prepare for the new school year.

In the current financial year, for the Government cases, the Ministry has paid a total of forty three (43) compensation cases consisting of ten (10) death cases and thirty three (33) injury cases amounting to $860,394.65 as at 24 December 2020.

Ministry of Employment, Productivity & Industrial Relations will continue to provide social justice to injured workers, and  the dependents of deceased workers through investigation of these workmen’s compensation cases which occurred on or before 31 December 2018.

Injuries and deaths occurring from 1 January 2019 are handled by the Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji under the “no fault scheme”.
