Injured Staff, Dependents Get $366K Total Payout

A total of $366,709.01 was paid out to nineteen former and current Government workers as final compensation payments.
The payments were paid out to three families of former Government employees who died during and in the course of employment and sixteen workers who suffered injuries while working.
This is part of the ministry’s mission to provide social justice to its current and former employees.
The families received their final compensation payments last week at the office of the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.
The families were grateful for the assistance provided by the Fijian Government.
Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Parveen Bala said the compensation pay-outs would provide great relief to the dependents of former employees who have died, including the injured workers, as they prepare for the new school year.
In the current financial year, for the Government cases, the ministry has paid 43 compensation cases, consisting of 10 death cases and thirty three 33 injury cases, amounting to $860,394.65 as at December 24, 2020.
The ministry will continue to provide social justice to injured workers, and the dependents of former employees who have died, through investigation of these workmen’s compensation cases, which occurred on or before December 31, 2018.
Injuries and deaths occurring from January 1, 2019 are handled by the Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji, under the “no fault scheme”.
