Goundar Shipping Limited managing director, George Goundar, has secured a piece of land in Rakiraki.

There he will build accommodation units for travellers including those using his Ellington- Nabouwalu services between Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

The achievement followed four years of searching for land in the vicinity, he said.

Eight acres of development

The land is located at Ellington in Rakiraki, where he will construct self-contained units along the coast, in a development worth more than $1 million.

Mr Goundar said securing the eight acres of land cost an estimated $2 million.

He expects to start developing the land as soon as his Canadian architect finalises development plans.

Work is expected to commence by February.

“We just need to finalise paperwork before the end of this month,” Mr Goundar said.

“The first thing would be to find out where our water and power source are drawn from.

“We hope to keep the place in its natural state as much as much as possible but in such a way to allow enough privacy.”

Mr Goundar also plans to invest in outboard engine boats and power boats to offer island cruises, fishing trips and sunset cruises to guests.

It is another example of Suncoast tourism development.
