Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday received a cheque of $420,000 from Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo to support Fiji in response to the devastation caused by Cyclone Yasa.

Mr Bainimarama commended the profound friendship between Fiji and China and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the sincere assistance and continued support from the Chinese government and the Chinese Embassy in Fiji.

Ambassador Qian was impressed and moved by the indomitable spirit and will of mutual help of the Fijian people.

He was confident that the Fijian people would conquer the difficulties and reconstruct their homes under the strong leadership of the Prime Minister and the Fijian Government.

The Ambassador hoped that the new batch of aid would inject confidence and courage to the people, and help them return to normal life soon.

Noting that China has always been a steadfast and reliable development partner of Fiji, Ambassador said that China stands ready to offer further assistance as required.

Ambassador Qian conveyed Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s message to Mr Bainimarama, expressing that the Chinese government and people were deeply sympathetic with the devastation incurred on the Fijian people by Cyclone Yasa.
