Hostel Students Of Lekutu Secondary School To Be Relocated To Labasa College

Hostel students of Lekutu Secondary School will be temporarily relocated to Labasa College.
This is the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts’ plan after the school’s hostel was destroyed during Tropical Cyclone Yasa.
Minister Rosy Akbar said some 16 hostel students are from Galoa Island and Yadua Island.
She said the Construction Implementation Unit (CIU) had carried out its assessment and rebuilding would take some time.
Ms Akbar said Labasa College was the nearest school which had the hostel facilities to accommodate the students.
However, parents who wish to continue sending their students to Lekutu Secondary School and make accommodation arrangements for them can do so.
“Parents have the right to make decisions for their children and we support their decision,” she said.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has already started rebuilding the school.
School utilities
On damaged utilities for the school, Ms Akbar said Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) and Water Authority of Fiji teams were on the ground and works were expected to be completed before school starts on January 18.
The ministry, she said, was co-ordinating with the NDMO and Commissioner Northern’s office.
She also praised school managers and teachers who had taken the initiative to clean their schools during the holidays.
