USP, A Smoke Free University, $50 Fine Imposed

Anyone caught smoking in any of the University of the South Pacific’s (USP) campuses and university-rented facilities will be liable to pay a $50 fine.

Even the popular Moana Park, otherwise referred to as Aimless Park is a smoke-free area.

This follows the announcement of USP becoming a Smoke Free University on Monday.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor Regional Campuses, Estates and Infrastructure Giulio Paunga said the university was encouraging everyone on campus to practice a healthy life.

“This will apply to all campuses and rented facilities where USP Business is undertaken,” Mr Paunga said.

“However, this decision excludes staff residences on campus.”

He said campus security had been responsible for enforcing this decision from January 1.
