Let’s Go Local: Lau Group Next On Ana’s Bucket List
Third from left Ana Tuiketei-Bolabiu and husband, James Bolabiu (right) about to go on a 12000 feet Skydive in Nadi.

Lawyer Ana Tuiketei-Bolabiu describes herself as an adventure enthusiast working in the private sector.

Her curiosity is what pushes her out of her comfort zone to want to explore new things.

As a board member for the Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry she supports innovative initiatives and encourages support towards our local industry.

Ms Tuiketei-Bolabiu is also the first Pacific woman counsel on a global roster working for the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.

She has broken the glass-ceiling for many young women in the Pacific.

What’s one place you’d take every visitor to Fiji and why?

That is easy- our pristine sandy beaches on the coast and the islands outside Viti Levu.

I find that different parts of our country have unique beaches including Rotuma.

Our beaches are surrounded by an array of marine life below the water’s surface and the candy-coloured coral reefs fringing over 300 islands is to behold.

Some of our Fijian beaches are such a stunner that it has even been named among the world’s must-sees in the book 1000 places to see before you die, and some locations have won multiple trip advisor travellers choice awards.

What is your secret backyard spot?

This is a tough question as it depends on what I am in the mood for or what is going on in the week- I am open minded to discover new things.

I love live music so that is one of my prerequisites for a good time.

Like a true Pacific islander good food is always an attractive characteristic for a spot.

During the weekday good coffee is an essential and I finally discovered a good barista who makes the best coffee – she will remain a secret J.

What is your favourite place in Fiji for a pie or coffee?

We are so blessed in Suva because we have a lot of choices when it comes to great coffee, pie, or coffee and pie places.

The level of service, menu design, great atmosphere and family friendly places in Fiji is something we need to be proud of (See list above).

MY TOP 10 FOR A PIE OR COFFRR IN NO ORDER WOULD BE

Governors Cafe
Coffee Bean
Kanu Gastropub
The Patisserie Pacifica
Cafe 30
The ROC
Moments Café
Paradiso
Eden McCafe
Bulaccino Café

What is one spot on the top of your bucket list?

The Lau Group.

I want to explore the 57 islands of the Lau Group as a lot of Fiji’s cultural history and that of my ancestors are linked to these islands.

Its remoteness, unique marine life and ecosystems makes it quite luring.

I have been to my village in Tubou and have explored Lakeba Island, however I want to visit the Bay of Islands of Vanua Balavu, mushroom rock of Fulaga, scuba dive in the pristine reefs and many more.

I cannot wait to tick this off my bucket.
