Second Cane Payment For 2020 Season Valued At $1.35 Million

The second cane payment for the 2020 season will be paid to cane farmers in all Fiji Sugar Corporation mill areas by Friday, January 15, 2021.
In a statement FSC highlighted:
- Payment has been affected by data transfer challenges in Vanua Levu and also the processing of relief for cane farmers in Vanua Levu, following the impact of T.C. Yasa.
- As per the Sugar Industry Master Award, the second cane payment comprises 20 per cent of the forecast cane price set at the commencement of each season.
- The second cane payment for the 2020 season will thus amount to $12.83 per tonne of cane.
- Consideration has been given during the processing of this cane payment to relief for cane farmers in Vanua Levu, following the impact of Cyclone Yasa.
- Industry stakeholders have resolved to reduce cane payment deductions for Vanua Levu cane farmers by 50 per cent in the second cane payment and that this reduction be recovered in the third cane payment for the 2020 season.
- This relief is valued at $1.35 million.
