Former Fijian 7s rugby rep Josaia Wini Raisuqe was red carded for lifting the referee to show his delight.

This was after his Nevers side beat Beziers 30-25 in the Pro-D2 match in France yesterday.

And coach of French second division club Xavier Pemeja said the Fijian winger lifting the referee was unacceptable.

The Lutu (Wainibuka), Naitasiri native grabbed official Laurent Millotte by the waist and him took off his feet as he celebrated the victory before being sent off.

“It’s intolerable. He’ll be punished by the league’s disciplinary committee,” Pemeja told Canal+ television.

“I’ll deal with him. I can’t accept it. What happened at the end there it’s going to be very bad.”

Fans on social media reacted with hilarity, disgust and anger at the moment that occurred in the second half.

There was a mixed reaction online to the bizarre moment with some fans finding it hilarious and others – much less so with comments like ‘lesson for all rugby players’ and ‘funniest red card ever.’

Raisuqe , 26, who is automatically suspended after the red card, joined the club in 2017 after two seasons with top-flight Stade Francais where he scored three tries in 11 games.

In July 2017 he was sacked by the Parisian outfit after he was accused of sexual assault which he denied.

This is not the first time that Raisuqe was red carded.

Last year he was sent off for a high tackle in a game against Bayonne and was suspended for five weeks by the disciplinary committee.

He dreamed of playing for the Fijiand it came to fruition when the then Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan spotted him playing in the Martintar and Marist 7’s and selected him for the for the 2015 Hong Kong Sevens.[1]

He played in 5 tournaments for Fiji scoring 14 tries but in July 2015, French Top 14 side, Stade Français signed him up for the 2015–16 Top 14 season.[2]
