Skipper Cup Teams Eye 10’s Comp

This is after the organisers of the Pratap Civil and Asphalt Quarry Rise Fiji Rise Jet Set 10’s has also attracted teams in the Skipper Cup.
Tournament organizer Jeff TamaÂta said the two-day event that will be hosted at the Prince Charles Park, Nadi have attracted big teams such as Naitasiri, Northland, Namosi, Suva, Nadroga, Yasawa, Ba, MaloÂlo, and the Ilai Derenalagi coached Nadi side to have confirmed their spot. The competition is scheduled for January 29-30.
“Skipper Cup teams have confirmed their spots and they will be using these l0’s to get their off season game time since most of them have already started their off season preparation for a challenging and tough 2021 Skipper Cup,” Tamata said.
Various winners of the Provincial club games have also confirmed their participation.
The competition will also have the Under 19 and Under 16 category as well alongside the men’s category.
Tamata added that due to a lot of interest in the competition the fellow Fijians have been the latest inclusion in the tournament.
“We have included the fellow Fijians category in the tournament due to the high demand from the fellow Fijians brother’s teams,” he said. Meanwhile the Naitasiri Highlanders team is looking forward in playing at the competition in Nadi.
Head coach Dr Ilaitia Tuisese said the team will be using the competition as a triaol.
” We will be using the l0’s comp to test out fitness depth and to test some new players in the squad.”
” We are so interested in going down to the west and playing against other teams.”
” The plans now is to work on areas that we left off during the final of the Skipper Cup last season and hope we can do better this year.”
Suva Rugby
Suva rugby administrator Tevita Tuiloa said the defending Skipper Cup champions will also be present at the 10’s tournament in Nadi.
“We will be there, the whole aim is to get some game time for the boys,” he said.
” Suva is going to field a young team as well because we want to test some new players for this season.”
“The competition will bring the best out of the players because most of them are still in holiday mode.”
” It’s time to watch on for the boys and the teams, Skipper Cup is just around the corner.”
These young players have a few big names to replace, like John Steward and Ratu Penijamini Makutu who might leave for peacekeeping duties
As of yesterday four teams such as Pratap Reds, Pratap Yellow, Lautoka, and Suva have so far confirmed while the others are expected to follow suit.
