PM Praises Villagers For Helping Clean Up Last School Building Standing

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama praised and thanked the people of Bua’s Lomani Village for helping to clean up the Bua District School building.

During his visit to the school yesterday he met the village headman Ratu Viliame Tagivakatau and Head Teacher Nitya Narayan.

Of the school’s buildings, one was destroyed by Cyclone Yasa, while the other was still standing and being cleaned for the start of the new school year.

Ratu Viliame said his village was located opposite the school and many children attended it.

“We want our children to continue their education and it’s our social responsibility to help the school,” Ratu Viliame said.

“We are still busy cleaning the school building.”

He said they were thankful to have Mr Bainimarama visit them and appreciated their efforts.

Mr Narayan informed Mr Bainimarama that building which consisted of classrooms for Years One to Four, a library and an office was the one that was destroyed by Cyclone Yasa last month.

“Our kindergarten was totally destroyed and three teachers quarters,” Mr Narayan said.

“We have already received books for 80 students and now waiting to receive bags.”

He said four tents had been set up for students to have classes.

Minister for Education Rosy Akbar was made aware that the school was without water.

She quickly made arrangements for water tanks to be available so that by Monday there would be water in the school.
