Former Family Court Registry Employee Takes Plea, Denies Embezzling $2,600

A former typist at the Suva Family Court Registry denied allegations of corrupt practice in the Suva Magistrates Court today.

Seini Rokosamu was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) last August with one (1) count of Embezzlement by Servant and three (3) counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage.

She denied embezzling $2,600.00 FJD from the Maintenance Fund, which was entrusted to her at the Suva Family Court Registry between January and February 2009.

She further denied falsifying signatures on the Maintenance Payment Sheet for three (3) different people in order to receive $830.00 FJD on three (3) different occasions in 2010.

FICAC State Counsel Darren Hickes informed the Court that Prosecution would be relying on the Caution Interview as it contained admissions from the Accused.

The matter was adjourned to 5 March 2021.
