Forty school children received their certificates after participating in Boxing Fiji’s first ever Kids Programme yesterday.

Sanctioned by the Fiji Amateur Boxing Association, the children were awarded certificates having passed the basic and fundamentals of boxing.

This was part of their development programmes.

The children from different clubs around Suva are aged 8 to 18 years.

The female participants outnumbered their male counterparts.

They were guided by accredited coaches and trainers during the boxing skills and fundamentals workshop.

Boxing Fiji co-programme organiser, Ana Ledua, said this was a great start for boxing.

“Most of the children are from the Suva area. We started in December and yesterday they received their certificates.

Meanwhile, the TJs Golden Gloves Championship is scheduled for February 26-27.

The competition was scheduled for December 21-22 but was postponed due to Tropical Cyclone Yasa.

About 50-60 bouts is scheduled at the Cdr Stan Brown Boxing and Fitness Centre, Walu Bay, Suva.
