About 600 families will benefit from the Sai Prema Foundation’s second round of help.

On Thursday, members of the organization and helpers filled 20 litre buckets with groceries and home essentials for the families.

In their first round of help, 7000 people impacted by Tropical Cyclone Yasa were assisted.

Sai Prema Foundation director Sumeet Tappoo said: “We realised the full extent of the damage once we were on the ground. We got a clearer picture on how people have suffered and what their needs were,” Mr Tappoo said.

“We resolved while on the ground that more people needed to be helped. This is for 600 families who are in the maritime areas as far as Lau.

“This is in conjunction with the United Nations teams. A UN team would be taking the Buckets of Love across for distribution.”

At the Sai Prema Hospital in Nasese, people from all walks of life joined in to pack the buckets of love.

Meanwhile, the humanitarian organisation was awarded the prestigious Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2021 by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.
