Daniel Cowley, Takayawa Top

National swimming rep Moana Wind combined well with Ana Cowley and Lewa Nicolaus performed above par to claim the team event title.

Daniel Cowley and Shanice Takayawa took out the men and women titles respectively during the National Triathlon Championship 2020 at Wailoaloa, Nadi yesterday.

Cowley was a force to reckon with in the 750 metres swim, 20 kilometers bike and 5 km run.

Takayawa, a national judo rep who won gold in the 70kg category at the 2019 Pacific Games in Samoa,  proved to be a hit.

Impressive James McCann took out the men’s  Super Sprint title as sisters Sadie and Katie Pattie took out the women’s event.

Fiji Triathlon Association secretary General Maryann Moss said: “Our first event of the year was a success with good weather and turnout especially from Suva.

“We’re optimistic we’ll get more participants next month.”

The next major international tournament is the 2022 Pacific Mini Games in the Northern Marianas.

She thanked Fiji Police for the support in managing traffic flow and Denarau Surf Dive N Ski Fiji Ltd for the Jetski Ocean support.

Boys: 8-9yrs – Lachlan McCann, 10-11yrs – Fai Moss, Girls: 10-11yrs – Havana Kurop, 12-13yrs – Ulukilupetea Kurop.

Duathlon: 10-11yrs Liam O’Donnell. Open: Men – Nick Barnes, Women- Noeline Mallam.
