Pala Is IYFA 2020 Top Footballer Of The Year

International School student Shayan Pala took out the top footballer awards at the International Youth Football Academy (IYFA) awards gala dinner at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau on Saturday night.

Pala, 15 was born in Australia and moved to Fiji in 2017.

He will turn 16 on August 17 this year. The right-link said the award was an early birthday gift for him.

“It is a great feeling to get this award. I want to take my football at the international level,” he said.

He joined the IYFA last year with the support from his dad Sanjay Pala.

Another gem in the making, Nishal Sharma, 15 a year 10 student of Jai Narayan College wants to be a professional footballer.

He plays at mid-field position and has been part of the pioneers of the academy since 2016.

“I love football and I want to be a professional footballer. I have been an ardent fan of Roy Krishna and I want to go further than what he has achieved, but it’s a long road ahead,” he said.

Thirdly, Rishal Shankar, 12, a year 8 student of Deenbandhu Memorial School said his hobby is football.

He plays striker and has been part of the academy for the last four years. He topped after scoring four goals.

IYFA technical director and head coach Rivaz Ali said the event was hosted to celebrate the achievement of the players and likewise the parental support as well.

“We are looking forward to the Champions League format in the under 12, Under 13 and Under 15 that will kick off this year.”

He added that they are also looking forward to the set-up of the academy in Navua soon and incoming months in Labasa as well.

Raffles and auction prizes were also part of the evening to celebrate the previous year.

Most improved U10: Pranav Mohram (west), Oliver Armstrong (Suva), Zeriah Jiwanji (Suva), Nina Teneira Castelein, Ariyan Chudry.

Most disciplined player: Kama Bradly (west), Liam O’Donnell, Tristan Ram, Amey Tappoo, Maya Gokal (Suva)

Upcoming player:  Benjamin Kwatoo (Suva), Kairav Anand (Suva), Rodrick Joseph, Everett Checkett (West), Nash On.

Team awards: Junior Pro Suva (beat West 2-0) man of the match -Oliver Armstrong,  IYFA Prospect Suva (beat West 3-2) man of the match – Cortez Brown, IYFA U15 West (beat Suva 3-2 Penalty) man of the match – Rishal Shankar,  IYFA Parents Suva (beat west 1-0) man of the match – Harun Rashid.
